CPP fronts, NGOs can be imputed under 'destroy Reds' order —Andanar

Communist Party of the Philippines' legal fronts, political parties, allied NGOs could be implicated in President Rodrigo Duterte's order to "destroy" the Reds, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said Sunday.

Andanar was referring to the functions of the task force the President has created against the communist rebels.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Andanar said, “Kahit yung kanilang mga legal front na mga party-list, mga NGO (non-government organization), kasama po yung mga pumupunta sa ating workplaces para mangalap ng miyembro. Lahat po. Walang excuse dito.”

Likewise, Andanar said that the insincerity of communist groups in the conduct of peace talks had prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to order security forces to "destroy" them.

Moreover, Andanar pointed out that nothing good has come out of the 50-year-old communist rebellion in the country but killings.

“Wala namang magandang nangyari sa 50 years kundi patayan lang. Sundalo, napaptay. Rebelde, namamatay. Naaapektuhan ang taongbayan. Parang hindi naman sinsero ang kabilang grupo, kaya ngayon nagkaroon tayo ng task force against insurgency,” Andanar said.

On Saturday, President Duterte ordered government troops to destroy the CPP after the communist group declared a ceasefire in observance of the holiday season.

"We do not subscribe to their ceasefire. We are ready for anything and I said change your paradigm. Do not fight them. Destroy them. Destroy them. Kill them. Basta destroy," Duterte said.

Earlier, Duterte formed a task force against communist rebels.

Andanar stressed that the President had tried to reach out to the Reds when he assumed power in 2016. But the CPP's insincerity has rendered the talks a futile exercise.

“Parang niloloko lang tayo ng kabilang kampo,” Andanar said. —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
