Speeding incidents at NLEx, SCTEx down 50% after speed cams installation — official
Speeding incidents at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) have declined by almost 50 percent a year after speed cameras were installed along the toll roads.
"Mula po nang ikabit namin 'yung mga speed cameras sa NLEx at SCTEX... matapos po ang isang taon nangangalahati na po ang mga nagva-violate ng overspeeding dahil dito," NLEx Corp. vice president for technology Glenn Campos said at a press conference in Quezon City on Thursday.
Campos said before the installation of speed cameras, speeding incidents reach 500 daily.
"Ang taas po ng violations, mga halos limang daan o higit pa isang araw," he said.
He also noted that motorists plying the toll roads were informed via the Waze app if there is a speed camera ahead.
NLEx and SCTEx set a minimum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour all vehicles and a maximum of 100 kilometers per hour for cars, and 80 kilometers per hour for trucks and buses.
"Ang tollways po natin hindi po karerahan 'yan noh. Nagme-maintain po tayo ng speed limit diyan sa loob ng tollways," Toll Regulatory Board spokesperson Alberto Suansing said during the event. — RSJ, GMA News
