DOLE monitoring if Chinese establishments in Boracay are employing Pinoys
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Monday said it is monitoring if Chinese establishments in Boracay are prioritizing the employment of Filipinos, following reports that they are hiring mostly foreigners.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, however, admitted that it is difficult to monitor establishments as the agency lacks labor inspectors.
"Normal 'yan, in fact we are inviting foreign investors. Walang problema doon. Ang ina-anticipate lang nating problema 'yung fear na 'yung mga foreigners na 'yan ay magi-employ ng foreigners which we will not allow," Bello said in a report on News To Go.
The report said DOLE is also monitoring the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO).
Bello urged the public to report to authorities if they notice any Chinese businesses who provide jobs to foreigners instead of employing Filipinos. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
