Nancy Binay sad for JV Ejercito but says she’s a lock for last Senate slot
Reelectionist Nancy Binay on Thursday afternoon claimed the 12th and final spot in the circle of winning candidates for senator.
Binay, however, said that she would not immediately celebrate knowing that her victory would mean her friend Senator JV Ejercito failing in his own reelection bid.
"I think today I can claim it. Parang stable na ako doon sa number 12," Binay said.
Binay made the claim after the Commission on Elections' transparency server indicated that more than 95 percent of the votes had been counted.
"Hindi rin ako pwedeng mag-celebrate at talagang ipagsigawan na ako na yung number 12 dahil alam ko kaibigan ko, kasama ko yung hindi makakabalik," Binay said.
As of 5:06 p.m. on Thursday, partial and unofficial results of the elections show that Nancy has a lead of about 200,000 votes against Ejercito.
With 97.6% of the election returns already processed by the transparency server as of 6:05 p.m., the partial and unofficial tally of the Comelec has Binay at 12th place with 14,384,005.
She leads by 230,148 votes Ejercito, who is at 13th with 14,153,857. —NB, GMA News
