Guevarra to tell Duterte’s frat brod to seek ‘justice for all’ as prosecutor general
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Monday said he would tell the new prosecutor general to make the Department of Justice (DOJ) an instrument to "achieve justice for all."
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Benedicto Malcontento, his fellow alumnus of the San Beda College and his brother in the Lex Talionis Fraternity, as the new prosecutor general of the National Prosecution Service (NPS) to replace the retired Victor Sepulveda.
Guevarra said Malcontento, a partner at the Kho Malcontento and Associates Law Offices, will take oath before him on Tuesday.
It will be his first time to meet the new NPS chief.
"But I will tell him to make the DOJ National Prosecution Service an instrument to achieve justice for all, regardless of political color, religious belief, and social and economic status," Guevarra said in a text message to reporters.
Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Richard Anthony Fadullon served as acting prosecutor general for a year, starting late June 2018. Before him, Jorge Catalan Jr., sat at the helm of the NPS but asked to be relieved so he can focus on his duties as Makati City prosecutor.
The NPS is tasked to investigate and prosecute criminal offenses. —NB, GMA News
