President Rodrigo Duterte should take a  break from his heavy schedule as he is “working too hard,” his spokesperson said Friday.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo issued the statement when asked by the media what could be the areas of improvement for the President who is now on his third year in office.

“I think he should not be spending too much time attending to all his activities at the sacrifice of his health. He’s working too hard.  And we told him so. Mr. President bakasyon ka naman at least two weeks. Tambak ang trabaho,” Panelo said.

Panelo clarified the President is strong and that the Cabinet members could hardly catch up with the Chief Executive’s work ethic.

“Wala syang nararamdaman kundi palaging pagod. He is always moving. Kulang nga ang tulog kasi nga biglang merong morning [schedule]. Di ba night person siya? Tapos gagawing speaker alas otso ng umaga. Talagang mahihirapan siya,” he said.

The 74-year-old Duterte, who admitted that he is suffering from some ailments, is sensitive about speculations regarding his health, often resorting to crude language and humor to reject claims from critics that he is in bad shape.

Malacañang, however, is against releasing any medical bulletin of the President, arguing the Constitution only requires disclosure in case of serious illness. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
