Duterte open to meeting Trillanes accuser Jude Sabio
President Rodrigo Duterte is open to meeting Jude Sabio, the lawyer who filed a complaint against him in connection with the spate of killings blamed on Duterte's war on drugs.
According to Lei Alviz's report on "24 Oras", Duterte said he wanted to know the truth straight from Sabio, who reportedly expressed his intention to testify against Senator Antonio Trillanes.
A former ally of Trillanes', Sabio has alleged that the senator had a hand in the "Ang Totoong Narco List", a series of viral videos linking members of Duterte's family to the illegal drug trade.
"Yeah, you just tell the truth," Duterte has said, addressing Sabio.
"You know, frankly, I have not met nor talked to the guy. What prompted him for a change of heart, I really do not know," he added.
The Office of the Solicitor General last week asked Department of Justice prosecutors to issue a subpoena for Sabio in connection with the sedition raps against Vice President Leni Robredo, Trillanes and several others.
The petition was denied.
"So, unless magkausap kami matanong ko, 'Bakit? Ano ba talaga ang totoo adre?' If the truth favors Trillanes and all, fine. Kung it favors... May nag-file eh, pero hindi ako," Duterte said.
Sabio has alleged that Trillanes reneged on paying his legal fees after he represented self-confessed Davao Death Squad hitman Edgar Matobato.
Trillanes has denied Sabio's allegations. —NB, GMA News
