DOLE tells employers to observe Nov. 1 and 2 holiday pay rules

The Department of Labor has issued the guidelines for compensating workers who will work on November 1 (All Saints' Day) and November 2 (All Souls' Day).

Both days have been declared as special non-working days.

Based on Labor Advisory 15, series of 2018, released by DOLE prescribing the appropriate determination of holiday pay, the rules are as follows:

• For work done on these days, an employee will receive an additional 30 percent in his/her basic wage on the first eight hours.

• For overtime, the employee will be paid an additional 30 percent on his/her hourly rate.

• For work done during these days that fall on the employee's day off, he/she will receive an additional 50 percent in his/her basic wage on the first eight hours.

The "now work, no pay" policy shall apply "unless there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day," DOLE said. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
