Another cadet dies at PMA, body found in swimming pool

A Philippine Military Academy (PMA) plebe drowned in the school's swimming pool on Friday, PMA spokesperson Captain Cheryl Tindog has said.

Cadet 4th Class Mario Telen, Jr. of Alpha Company of the Cadet Corps of the Armed Forces of the Philippines was found dead in the 15-foot deep end of the pool.

He was declared dead on arrival at the PMA Station Hospital.

Tindog said a thorough investigation is now being conducted to determine the events leading to the incident.

According to initial information received by the headquarters, Telen attended his swimming class from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

Telen was unaccounted for in his next classes.

The PMA, in coordination with the Philippine National Police Baguio, is conducting a "thorough investigation" to determine the events leading to the incident, according to Tindog.

"All needed actions and protocols are being undertaken to deal with any infraction and/or irregularity. Likewise, all swimming classes of the cadets are temporarily halted until such time that the incident has been properly addressed," Tindog said.

"PMA deeply grieves for this unfortunate loss of one of our sons. All necessary assistance will be extended to the bereaved family and loved ones of Cdt 4CL Telan," she added. —Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
