Retired Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio doesn't accept cases from his friends, relatives and law partners.

In an episode of "Bawal Ang Pasaway kay Mareng Winnie" on Tuesday, Carpio said whenever one of his friends or colleagues make an appointment with him, he'll immediately decline.

Carpio said he has a policy that if the lawyer belongs to a former law firm of his, he automatically inhibits.  However, he cited an exception.

"If the lawyer belongs to a former law firm of mine, I automatically inhibit, unless, there's one exception:  If they are not counsels and suddenly, they would intervene, I will not inhibit if I decide against them because they're coming late . . .I will not inhibit if I decide against them," the former magistrate said.

He said he wants "to educate people civics, love of country and fairness."

"That has to go all the way up to college. I mean we have to go back to basics," he said.
