Malacañang condoles with Japan over passing of former PM Nakasone
Malacañang on Sunday evening expressed its condolences to the Japanese government and people over the passing of former Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone.
"Prime Minister Nakasone was a great friend of the Philippines," said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in an emailed statement.
Panelo recounted how the Japanese leader was conferred with the Order of Sikatuna with the rank of Grand Collar in 1983.
"As tributes pour to honor the life and legacy of the late Japanese leader, we pray that the Almighty grant Mr. Nakasone eternal repose as he rests in happiness and peace," added Palace spokesperson.
Nakasone, who died last November 29, served as prime minister from 1982 to 1987, after a career during which he battled with bureaucrats to enact sweeping reforms. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
