Duterte honors Misamis Oriental hero cop
President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday honored the police officer who died after using his body to shield students from a grenade explosion inside a college campus in Misamis Oriental last week.
During the wake visit, Duterte posthumously awarded Police Master Sergeant Jason Magno an Order of Lapu-Lapu Magalong Medal and the Philippine National Police Medal of Valor. His family was also given financial assistance.

On November 28, a man wielding a bladed weapon and grenade entered the Initao College campus.
Magno and fellow Master Sergeant Alice Balido responded to the incident and faced the assailant who was threatening the students and faculty of the school.
It was reported that the assailant hurled the grenade, prompting Magno to use his body to cover the explosive in order to shield the civilians in the vicinity.
A total of 10 students and Balido were injured from the incident.
Duterte also visited Balido, who was awarded an Order of Lapu-Lapu Kampilan Medal for her service along with financial assistance from the Office of the President. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
