NDRRMC: Tisoy's damage to agriculture stands at over P2 billion
Damage to agriculture in five regions in the Philippines Typhoon Tisoy's strong winds swept early this week stands at more than P2 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management said Friday.
Most badly-hit areas include Regions III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, V, incurring heavy damage to crops, fisheries, and livestock, according to NDRRMC.
In its latest situation report, the disaster management council said the cost of damage to agriculture in the said regions has reached P2,096,564,965.50.
Also, the council said the weather disturbance affected a total of 108,285 families or 470,140 individuals in 1,237 barangays in Regions III, V and VIII.
Of those affected, a total of 67,971 families or 259,102 individuals are being catered in evacuation centers, it added.
Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and other local government agencies have provided P6,112,550.36 worth of assistance to affected residents.
Based on NDRRMC’s tally, Tisoy's death toll was at 12, with 54 injured in Regions V, VIII, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA.
The NDRRMC noted that the fatalities came from Quezon Province, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Leyte, and Northern Samar.
Earlier police reports indicated that at least five people died in the Bicol region.
On the other hand, the number of damaged houses in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Regions V, VI and CARAGA was at 78,691.
Moreover, there were 2,193 damaged schools in CAR, CARAGA, MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, Regions I, III, V, VI and VIII, the NDRRMC said.
Nineteen road sections and two bridges are still non-passable to vehicles, it added.
On the other hand, the NDRRMC Operations Center still maintains its blue alert status to continuously monitor the conditions of the typhoon-hit areas.
Weather bureau PAGASA said Tisoy left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning. —LBG, GMA News
