‘In same good condition’, Noynoy Aquino moved from ICU to regular room

Former President Benigno Aquino III was transferred on Tuesday afternoon from the intensive care unit of the Makati Medical Center to a regular room.

According to his spokesperson Abigail Valte, this was in line with Aquino's wish that he not be in the way of other patients.

“He requested if he could be moved to a regular room so as not to disturb other patients. Pumayag naman ang mga doktor niya,” Valte said.

As regards Aquino's health, Valte said, "He's in the same condition as yesterday, which means good."

"Doctors are looking to complete the usual battery of tests, as it has been some time since he has had an executive check up," Valte said.

"He has not had an executive check up in a long time, so they are taking advantage of the time to run a complete battery of test,” she added.

Valte said Aquino was not fighting for his life.

“He has never lost consciousness. There has been no heart surgery. He was not in a critical condition,” Valte said.

“I visited him last night and he is actually okay,” she added.

Valte said no date had yet been set for the discharge from the hospital of the former President.

“The doctors are yet to clear him,” Valte said.

The former President is 59 years old.

Valte said Aquino thanked those who expressed concern following his confinement at the hospital on Monday.

Aquino was brought to the hospital on Monday for a scheduled checkup.

Valte issued the statement to deny a report which claimed Aquino was at the MMC to undergo a heart procedure.

"Former President Noynoy Aquino is at the Makati Medical Center for a scheduled check up and a routine procedure," Valte said. "He's alright and in high spirits, and thanks everyone for their concern."

Valte said Aquino even made a joke about his love life when she spoke with him.

"While he is currently under observation, I was able to speak to him and apprise him of what is being reported in media. Nagbiro pa na baka daw kaya heart procedure ang balita kasi heartbroken siya," Valte said. — NB, GMA News
