CNN Philippines temporarily goes off air as employee within building tests positive for COVID-19

CNN Philippines on Wednesday announced that it will be off the air for at least 24 hours after an employee within its building was confirmed positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

"Today, we received word that there is one confirmed case of the coronavirus at Worldwide Corporate Center along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong, where CNN Philippines is located," it said in a statement.

"As a result, the management of Worldwide Corporate Center will disinfect the premises as soon as possible. That means we will be off the air for at least 24 hours," it added.

The media company however assured that it will continue to deliver news and information through its social media platforms.

"We have prepared for this emergency. For more than two weeks now, many of our colleagues have been isolate and working from home already," it said.

As of March 17, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines has risen to 187. The number of deaths has reached 14.

The Department of Health on Tuesday confirmed that there is now sustained community transmission of COVID-19, which means that new cases are no longer traceable from known infections.

President Rodrigo Duterte has placed the entire Luzon under an enhanced community quarantine and declared a state of calamity over the whole country.
