200 Filipinos who attended Muslim gathering in Malaysia subject of contact tracing
More than 200 Filipinos who attended a Muslim gathering in Malaysia in February and who have returned to the Philippines are now the subject of contact tracing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
"Mayroon ho tayong isinagawang coordination with our undersecretary diyan sa Mindanao area na siya po ang namamahala ng ating pagsasagawa ng contact tracing for all of these apparently 202 Filipinos na nagpunta po sa Malaysia at nakabalik dito," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a press briefing.
She added that more details could be expected as soon as the DOH received the report from the officials of the Bangsamoro region.
It has been reported that around 16,000 people from different countries participated in a religious rally held in Kuala Lumpur during the last week of February. Those who attended were later advised to undergo COVID-19 tests after one of the participants has been infected.
The Philippines has, so far, recorded 217 cases of COVID-19 while Malaysia has over 600. -NB, GMA News
