Coast Guard’s BRP Gabriela Silang arrives in Philippines to assist in COVID-19 crisis

The Philippine Coast Guard's French-made patrol vessel BRP Gabriela Silang arrived in the country on Tuesday morning to assist in transporting medical items amid the threat or coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country.

According to the PCG, the offshore patrol vessel could also transport frontline health workers to regional hospitals across the country aside from delivering medical supplies, medicines and personal protective equipment.

It is currently docked at the anchorage area of the Manila Bay.

The PCG said it is willing to designate the offshore patrol vessel as a quarantine ship if needed.

The PCG said BRP Gabriela Silang came from the Middle East as it was initially deployed there to assist in the repatriation of Filipinos due to the tension in the region. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
