Año to Pinoys: Reflect on how to be part of solution vs. COVID-19 this Lenten season
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Good Friday encouraged Filipinos to reflect on how they can be part of the solution in addressing the present health crisis due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a press statement, Año said the COVID-19 pandemic has compelled Filipinos to observe the Holy Week in a virtual way, prompting them to just pray inside their residences as part of the measures in containing the spread of the disease.
"Let this Lenten Season be a time for us to reflect on how we can all be part of the solution and what we can do, in our own little ways, to help the frontliners and the government alleviate the plight of those who are most affected by COVID-19," he said.
Año also urged the public to pray for the protection and safety of frontline workers who continue to offer services for Filipinos despite risking their own health. He also asked for prayers for all government officials.
"Let us also pray for our national and local government officials, especially our punong barangays, that they may address this crisis with urgency, wisdom, and compassion in the service of the people," he said.
He also requested for prayers for the recovery of those who have been infected with COVID-19.
"Ipanalangin po natin na kanilang malagpasan ang hamon na ito at ang kanilang lubusang paggaling," Año said.
Año expressed confidence that the strong faith of Filipinos would win against this health crisis.
"We are Easter people. Let us continue to have faith that this too shall pass as we look forward to a new beginning with renewed dedication, love, and commitment for our country and our people," he said.
So far, the Philippines has 4,076 confirmed cases with 203 deaths and 124 recoveries.
