PNP collects P136.7M to aid gov't efforts vs. COVID-19

Almost P140 million have been already collected by the Philippine National Police (PNP) for its Bayanihan Fund Challenge which aims to assist in the national government's effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"Sa kasalukuyan, nakalikom na ang Team PNP Bayanihan Fund Challenge ng kabuuang P136.7 million." PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said during a virtual press briefing on Tuesday.

The program aims to raise at least P200 million from the pockets of police officers until April 30 to augment the government's social amelioration program.

Earlier, Gamboa said the Director for Comptrollership was the unit primarily responsible for the project, adding that the money would be turned over to the national treasury or to any of the appropriate agencies.

He said the Bayanihan Fund Challenge was strictly voluntary with "no standard amount of contributions specified."

Gamboa also said each PNP personnel was encouraged to help the poorest of the poor in their respective communities under the Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko program.

"Ang Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko program ay nakalikom nang kabuuang P46.7 million para sa 96,459 indigent o poorest of the poor nating kababayan," Gamboa said. -MDM, GMA News
