Former Senator Tessie Aquino-Oreta passes away

Former Senator Tessie Aquino-Oreta has passed away, her son announced on Facebook on Friday.

According to Malabon Mayor Antolin "Lenlen" Oreta, his mom passed away at 10:48 p.m. on Thursday, May 14.

Mayor Oreta described the former lawmaker as "a public servant who devoted her life to the country and her adopted hometown of Malabon."

"She was a loving grandmother, mother, and wife and a friend to those whose lives she touched," he said. "We ask for your prayers for mom. Thank you."

Oreta is the sister of slain senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. --KBK, GMA News
