DepEd crafting self-learning modules for August 24 class opening —official

An Education official said Wednesday that preparations for the opening of classes on August 24 is centered on the production of  "self-learning" modules.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio said these modules will be given to students who have no gadgets and internet access.

“Ang pinaghahandaan po natin talaga ay ‘yung printed self-learning modules na gagawing available sa mga mag-aaral na walang gadget. Kaya ‘yun po talaga ang ginagawa namin ngayon,” San Antonio said.

Likewise, he said that  DepEd's regional and division offices are set to submit the self-learning modules for every grade and learning area this week.

Due to the sheer volume of the task, the DepEd advised its regional and division offices to prioritize crafting the first four weeks of the self-learning modules, San Antonio added.

Now, he said, the DepEd is assessing the number of students who will need the specific materials in the coming school year, and the data gathering to determine this is expected to be completed by the end of June.

“May mga assumption na rin po kami, ‘yung ibang ways to determine kung ano ang kailangan,” he added.

Moreover, he said, the task of printing and reproducing the modules will be distributed among regional and division offices, and schools. “Magbaba kami ng fund para dito.”

However, San Antonio admitted that funding is one of their challenges. “At kung hindi po sapat ‘yung fund—kasama po ito sa mga challenges namin—ay hihingi kami ng tulong sa aming mga partners.” —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
