Jiary Papa's family believes no foul play in death of PNPA cadet
The family of Jiary Jasen Papa, a cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) who died last week, believed that there was no foul play in her death as confirmed in a separate autopsy.
According to her father Ronald Jasen, the family had another autopsy performed which yielded the same results as reported by the PNP.
"Nag-conduct nga kami ng sariling autopsy at parehas ang naging resulta ng ospital at tsaka 'yung nag-autopsy na kinuha namin. Wala namang naging bias," he said in a report on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday.
The death of Cadet Fourth Class Jiary Jasen Papa was reported over the weekend. It was said that she died due to hypokalemia (low potassium intake) or electrolyte imbalance on Friday.
She was the eldest child and was said to be affectionate with her family. The last time she spoke with them was on June 28.
"Mabuti 'yang anak, napakabait 'yan sa amin simula pagkabata hanggang sa nangyari na ito sa kanya. Wala kaming masabi," her father Ronald said.
"Napakabait, sobrang bait na bata, sobrang mapagmahal sa magulang, sobra sobra," added her mother Lanie Jasen.
Papa was the second cadet of the PNPA who died in three days, following Cadet Fourth Class Kenneth Ross Alvarado who collapsed while participating in the evening mess foundation last Wednesday. He succumbed to a heat stroke.
For its part, the PNPA has suspended activities for new cadets while investigations on the deaths are ongoing.
"(Suspended) 'yung mga physical activities ng mga new cadets dito sa PNPA and the only thing they are doing now to at least hindi sayang 'yung oras is we are conducting lectures," said Police Lieutenant Colonel Byron Allatog of the public information office. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
