At total of 300 cases have been handled by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in connection with the alleged anomalies in the distribution of cash aid from the Social Amelioration Program.

According to the PNP-CIDG on Monday, 300 cases have been lodged by 619 complainants from April 1 to July 10. These cases are against 916 suspects, including 385 elected public officials.

Of these cases, 51 are still under probe, 201 have already been filed in various courts, five are being readied for filing, six were referred to other agencies, and 37 cases could no longer be filed as some complainants do not want to pursue the matter or there is no substantial evidence to file charges, police said.

The CIDG Regional Field Unit (RFU) XII recorded the most number of cases received with 50, followed by RFU VII and IV-A with 31 and 28 cases, respectively.

Meanwhile, the CIDG RFU VI has received 25 cases while RFU VIII has 24, and RFU 12 has 22 cases.

The PNP - CIDG was tapped by the national government to conduct case build-up operations against corrupt local officials amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the distribution of the cash aid is ongoing, the CIDG also continues to receive, handle, and investigate complaints against local officials and other probable suspects who are allegedly involved in anomalous activities.—AOL, GMA News
