2 injured soldiers in firefight with Abu Sayyaf members get recognition
Two soldiers who sustained injuries following an encounter with the Abu Sayyaf Group in Patikul, Sulu on July 6 were honored in an event attended by President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday.
Duterte witnessed the conferment of the Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kampilan on Staff Sergeant Ramonito Diapolet and Corporal Maynard Cabote during his visit at Camp General Teodulfo Bautista in Jolo.
The Kampilan Medal is given to those who were seriously wounded or suffered great loss of property as a direct result of their participation in an activity in connection with a campaign or advocacy of the President.
Diapolet and Cabote got injured in the firefight in Barangay Bakung in Patikul town. The encounter lasted around 30 minutes, according to the military.
In his speech, Duterte thanked the soldiers for their “undying service, especially during these trying times.”
“You have indeed accomplished so much in fighting the Abu Sayyaf Group in recent years, and this led to significant strides towards crushing them for good,” he said.
He also assured the troops that their needs and those of their families will be taken care of.
“The government will continue to implement policies and programs that will secure your future,” Duterte said.—AOL, GMA News
