Quarantine passes to be used again in MECQ areas — Año

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Monday said quarantine passes would be used again by residents living in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine.

"Under MECQ, kailangan natin ng quarantine pass. Pinagusapan na namin ng mga NCR mayors 'yan," Año said in a radio interview. "We leave it to the LGU kung paano nila i-implement."

Año reminded the public that travel should only be for essentials. He also said transportation would be limited for commuters.

The public should also expect quarantine checkpoints in MECQ areas, especially in their borders, according to Año.

"Ibabalik natin 'yan, especially 'yung sa mga borders ng outside ng MECQ areas..." Año said.

On late Sunday night, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that the National Capital Region and the provinces of Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal would be placed under MECQ starting August 4 to 18.

This came after health workers had asked for Metro Manila to return to an enhanced community quarantine status for two weeks to give them time to rest and "recalibrate strategies" against COVID-19 pandemic— Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
