BOC warns vs. scams using fake emails, weblinks
The Bureau of Customs on Friday warned the public against “unscrupulous” individuals who target unsuspecting customers amid the rise of online transactions due to the “new normal.”
In a statement, the BOC said it recently received reports and complaints about individuals who claim to have communicated with alleged BOC personnel who in turn ask payment for the release of parcels or packages from the bureau.
The BOC urged the public to refrain from further communicating with such individuals as they are “organized scammers.”
Further, the bureau also warned that these scammers have gone as far as using fake BOC email accounts and fake websites to swindle their victims.
The BOC said its only official website is www.customs.gov.ph and its official email address that catered to stakeholder concerns was boc.cares@customs.gov.ph.
The BOC said it was coordinating with the National Bureau of Investigation regarding the matter.
“As the BOC continues to promote and utilize online systems, the public is reminded to remain vigilant against criminals who take advantage of technology to commit unscrupulous acts,” the bureau said. — DVM, GMA News
