Employees infected at workplace can get added compensation —ECC

Employees who contracted COVID-19 due to work-related activities can receive more compensation aside from the benefits of the Social Security System (SSS).

In a public briefing on Thursday, Employees' Compensation Commission (ECC) Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis said these workers can receive sickness and medical benefits.

“Ito pong benefits under Employee's Compensation Program are over and above the benefits that can be claimed from SSS for non-work related incidents for disease,” Banawis said.

“Idadagdag lang po yung EC benefits. Iki-claim din po siya ng ating empleyado kung work related po ‘yung contingency na nangyari sa kanila,” she added.

Beneficiaries can claim up to P480 per day depending on their monthly salary credit in SSS, Banawis said.

Aside from this, Banawis said the ECC also provides death and funeral benefits for employees who died due to work-related activities.

Also, the ECC's chief noted that government employees under Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) can also avail the separate benefits from the commission except for sickness benefits.

For those who like to claim the assistance, Banawis advised them to go to SSS or GSIS offices with the required documents such as employment certificate a job description, medical record of COVID-19 infection, and EC Logbook. —LBG, GMA News
