Guevarra: Respect Perete’s privacy on resignation

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Thursday urged the public to respect the privacy of his former undersecretary Mark Perete, who cited personal reasons when he tendered his resignation.

In a message to reporters, Guevarra confirmed that Perete has submitted his resignation to President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Before doing so, he explained to me the reasons for tendering his resignation. As these reasons were very personal, the least that we could do for him is to respect his privacy and wish him well,” Guevarra said.

Perete, who was also the spokesperson of the Department of Justice, announced on Thursday that he has resigned from his post effective immediately.

“After much thought, I have decided to submit my resignation from the DOJ effective today due to serious reasons... My reasons are very personal and I humbly request for everyone's understanding. Thank you,” Perete had said.

He also said that though he wanted to continue under Guevarra’s leadership, it would be a “disservice” to do so at the moment.

Perete was appointed as the department’s spokesperson in November 2018.

He was also a  technical assistant at the Office of the President with the rank of assistant secretary for the legal affairs prior to working at the DOJ. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
