AFP names new JTF-NCR commander
The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Tuesday designated a new commander for the Joint Task Force - National Capital Region (JTF - NCR).
In a change of command ceremony presided over by AFP chief General Gilbert Gapay, Brigadier General Marceliano Teofilo formally assumed post as the new chief of JTF - NCR, replacing Brigadier General Alex Luna.
The JTF - NCR is tasked to combat terrorism and insurgency across the metro. It also acts as a support unit to the Philippine National Police in securing peace and order within Metro Manila.
"Considering JTF-NCR’s focus on preventing CTGs and other terrorist groups from operating and bringing their influence in Metro Manila, Brigadier General Teofilo’s experiences in various units of the ISAFP will be utilized to further intensify intelligence and counter-intelligence operations of this command,” Gapay said.
According to the AFP, Teofilo served as the commander of the 203rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division and also as an assistant division commander.
He also served as the chief of the Joint Task Force Taal wherein he led in the response efforts during the eruption of Taal Volcano in January.
Gapay, meanwhile, also praised Luna, who is now the AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence (J2), for his service at the JTF - NCR.
"Brigadier General Luna’s outstanding leadership enabled JTF-NCR to attain achievements worthy of our country’s acknowledgement and appreciation,” Gapay said.
During Luna's leadership, the JTF - NCR was tasked to help in implementing the health protocols against COVID-19. The troops also helped in ensuring the safety of foreign delegates and the security of venues during the Southeast Asian Games 2019.—AOL, GMA News
