Heavy traffic, confusion mark second day of RFID system at NLEX, SLEX

On the second day of the cashless collection of payment in tollways on Wednesday, many motorists still found themselves stuck in slow-moving traffic.

At North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) toll plazas, some motorists were even confused with the designated lanes, according to James Agustin's report on Unang Balita on Wednesday.

The heavy traffic was caused by motorists availing radio-frequency identification (RFID) stickers. On Tuesday night, traffic at the Balintawak Toll Plaza reached 500 meters long.

Many motorists were also confused which lanes were designated for the installation of RFID tags and which lanes were for those who already have them. Because of this, some motorists had to pull over to check which lane to enter.

Meanwhile, at Mindanao Toll Plaza, heavy traffic was already being experienced as early as 4 a.m. on Wednesday. Like in Balintawak, many motorists were also confused on which lanes to use.

Even those who already have the RFID stickers were stuck in traffic.

To ease the traffic, the NLEX management allowed motorists with RFID tags to take a counterflow.

Two lanes are designated to install RFID stickers for 24 hours.

SLEX

Meanwhile, at the C-5Toll Plaza on the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Taguig City, a long line of vehicles was also seen mid-morning on Wednesdayfor the installation of RFID stickers, according to a video shared by Super Radyo dzBB reporter Rod Vega.

Motorists who have yet to obtain the RFID stickers can avail them upon entering the tollways. This will go on until January 11, 2021.

On January 12, 2021, only selected lanes will be designated for cash payment. Motorists who will use the wrong lanes will be fined P2,000 for violations in disregarding traffic signs and obstruction. --Joviland Rita/KBK/KG, GMA News
