8 dead, 2 hurt due to Vicky —NDRRMC spox

Tropical Storm Vicky (international name: Krovanh) left eight people dead in the Philippines, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday.

Interviewed on Unang Balita, NDRRMC spokesperson Peter Paul Galvez said aside from the eight fatalities, two people were wounded while another one was missing.

"Naitala natin simula kagabi, mayroon na po tayong walo... so 'yun medyo nakakalungkot, mayroon po tayong walo na [fataities]," Galvez said.

"Tuloy ang confirmation pero ito 'yung mga nakita na natin ngayon sa CARAGA, sa Region VIII at saka nanggaling dito sa Region XI and then mayroon tayong dalawang injured at may pinaghahanap tayo na isa," he added.

Galvez said Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental are the most-affected provinces of the weather disturbance. Floods and landslide incidents were recorded in CARAGA region, he added.

In its situation report on Sunday, the NDRRMC said the total damage in infrastructure in CARAGA due to Vicky was P105,400,000.

At least 6,702 individuals or 1,950 families from 57 barangays in Davao and Caraga Region were affected by Vicky.

Vicky, which exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday, was moving southwestward at 20 km/h, according to PAGASA's Monday morning update.
