TRB lifts deadline on rollout of cashless toll
The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) on Friday lifted the deadline on the implementation of the full cashless toll transactions at the North Luzon Expressway and the South Luzon Expressway, according to Ivan Mayrina’s report on “24 Oras.”
“It means mayroon pa rin cash lanes tayo. Dahil suspended ‘yung IRR, it means walang penalties, walang apprehensions for those violating the department order ng cashless transactions,” Raymundo Junia, TRB board member, said.
The decision was met with approval from motorists.
“Tama ‘yun, dapat ayusin muna ‘yung palpak bago patupad talaga na totally na [cashless],” a driver said.
“Eh ‘di mas okay, pero kukuha na kami ngayon, para wala ng problema,” another driver said.
Heavy traffic caused by malfunctioning RFID scanners at toll booths is one of the reasons the TRB has yet to set another deadline.
“It would be dependent on how the systems of the different operators will be able to match the requirement of the traffic flow. Sa ngayon nagkaroon ng experiences ng glitches and that is what the operators are trying to correct now,” Junia said.
Meanwhile, the NLEX management said it has conducted a technical audit.
"Maluwag ang trapiko at wala na po ‘yung mahahabang pila doon sa mga RFID barriers natin. Na-overcome naman natin ‘yung Christmas rush,” Romulo Quimbo, chief communications officer, said.—Joanha Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
