The Philippine Coast Guard said a Chinese research vessel took shelter in Catanduanes's Cabugao Bay due to inclement weather.
A Monday PCG report explained that the marine scientific research vessel Jia Geng had left Bato town at around 6 a.m. The PCG's Islander plane overflew the foreign ship as it exited Philippine waters.
During the vessel's stay in Catanduanes, PCG patrols monitored the Chinese ship's activities.
The Department of Foreign Affairs informed the PCG on January 30 that the Chinese Embassy had requested diplomatic clearance for the vessel to take shelter in Catanduanes.
An earlier report from Unang Balita said the vessel's stay in Catanduanes had no permission and was not coordinated with local officials.
