The Philippine National Police (PNP) has designated Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Olay as its new spokesperson, replacing Police Brigadier General Ildebrandi Usana.

In a statement on Friday, PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas said Olay, aside from being the PNP spokesperson, will also head the PNP Public Information Office.

Usana told GMA News Online that he is set to retire on April 20 but he already requested for a non-duty status now.

According to the PNP, Olay was the PNP deputy director for operations and NCRPO deputy regional director for administration.

Olay, a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis-Lahi” Class 1990, also briefly served as director of the PNP Health Service and deputy director for comptrollership in 2020.

He was the provincial director of Cagayan Police Provincial Office from 2014 to 2016.

Before this, he had some field assignments as director of the Provincial Mobile Force Battalion of Batangas; CIDG District Office in Eastern Metro Manila, and as assistant chief of the CIDG Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Division.

He also served the PNP Maritime Group and Headquarters Support Service.

Olay underwent formal training on intelligence and comptrollership in the PNP; Maritime Law Enforcement in Malaysia; Supervisory Criminal Investigation Course in Thailand; and commercial crimes investigation in Singapore and the US Embassy in Manila, according to the PNP.—AOL, GMA News
