For Senator Richard Gordon, he is one of the most qualified individuals who can sit as the next Philippine president.

“If you ask me if I am qualified, I think I am one of the most qualified. I’m sorry I have to say that dahil kailangan sabihin mo, dahil wala namang magsasbi na iba,” Gordon said during the Laging Handa briefing.

Gordon said the next Philippine president should have the experience, vision, integrity, and track record.

He said the country’s top leader should not be “all-talk.”

“Kapag tinatanong ako, palagay ko kaya ko. Sinasabi ko, kaya kong umupo diyan sa puwesto na yan kung ngayon, mapapaaandar ko yan,” he said.

(If you ask me, I think I can be a president. I tell them I can lead if you give me the position today.)

Gordon cited his experience in law, foreign relations, tourism, and investment negotiations in Subic.

“Kung tatakbo ba ako, abangan natin, tingnan natin sa susunod [na araw]. Magtatanong muna ako sa mga kaibigan natin, mga nagtitiwla sa atin kung kaya natin,” he added.

(Should I run in 2022? We will see in the following days. I will ask first my friends and those who put their trust on me.)

For now, Gordon said everyone must focus on addressing the pandemic.

Early this week, Gordon said he might consider running for president again in the upcoming May 2022 elections.

Gordon ran for president in 2010 and senator in 2013 but did not prevail  in both elections. He was elected senator again in 2016.

He is currently a Senate chair of Blue Ribbon, Committee on Justice and Human Rights as well as Government Owned and Controlled Corporations.

Gordon is also the chairman of Philippine Red Cross, which also helped in the country's pandemic efforts.

In the recent Pulse Asia survey results, Gordon was at the 11th spot as choice for possible presidential candidates in 2022.  — RSJ, GMA News
