A group of Camarines Sur local officials led by the province's 4th district representative Arnulf Bryan Fuentebella expressed their support for a 2022 gubernatorial run by Vice President Leni Robredo.

In a Facebook post, former Camarines Sur representative Rolando Andaya Jr. said their local party Anduyog adopted a May 15 Resolution endorsing Robredo for Camarines Sur governor in the 2022 elections since she was a selfless leader who would put the province's welfare first.

"We, the undersigned, believe that now, more than ever, need to have a leader who has a genuine concern for our beloved province, someone who will bring our province out of poverty and into progress. We believe that Vice President Robredo is the governor that Camarines Sur needs right now," the group said.

"She will be able to lead the province into recovery from the devastating effects of this pandemic. Should she rise to this challenge, we express her support to her candidacy as governor of the province of Camarines Sur."

The group also designated Andaya as its point person and authorized Andaya to give the manifesto to Robredo.

Fuentebella also shared the manifesto on his Facebook account.

Camarines Sur's incumbent governor is Miguel Villafuerte who is already on his third consecutive and last three-year term.

Robredo, on the other hand, earlier said that while running for a local post was  more attractive to her since it would mean closer engagement with communities, she remained open to running for President.

Robredo had also said that the biggest obstacle in a presidential run was the lack of resources.

Should Robredo decide to run for President in the 2022 polls, it will mark the first time that she will not run as an administration candidate.

She won her previous two electoral bids, for Congress as Camarines Sur third district representative in 2013 and for Vice President in the 2016 polls, both under the then ruling Liberal Party.
