Antipolo lawmaker Resurreccion Acop dies

The House of Representatives on Friday mourned the death of Antipolo City 2nd District Representative Resurreccion Acop.

The chamber expressed sympathies to Acop's family and loved ones, especially to her husband, former Representative Romeo Acop.

"She will be remembered for her kindness, passion and commitment to selflessly serve the people of the 2nd district of Antipolo City," the House of Representative said in a statement.

According to the lawmaker's husband, they were infected with COVID-19 last month and the Antipolo lawmaker suffered from complications. He said the infection spread on his wife's body.

"Initially 'yung lungs niya may bacterial pneumonia kung tawagin nila 'yun and then nagkaroon siya ng some blood clotting. 'Yun ang kuwan sa kanya, until I was told, kasi minsan lang kami pinayagan bumisita. I was told nagkaroon ng organ failure, ng multiple organ failure. Naapektuhan 'yung kidney niya, ganoon ang nangyari," Romeo told reporters.

(Initially, her lungs had bacterial pneumonia then she also experienced blood clotting. That's what was said to me since we rarely visit her. I was told that she also had multiple organ failure. Her kidney was affected, that's what happened.)

He said his wife would have turned 74 in November.

"She was a good and patient wife, a good and patient mother, a good and patient grandmother, a very good and patient companion, and a patient and kind friend to all her friends," he recalled.

The Antipolo City government also condoled with Acop's family.

Acop was the vice chairperson of the House Committee on Health. She principally authored 102 measures and co-authored 44 bills.  —KBK/RSJ, GMA News
