PNP, BFPI offer scholarship to dependents of cops who died, incapacitated in line of duty
Educational assistance is being offered to dependents of police personnel who have died or have been incapacitated while in service under the program of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Bayaning Pulis Foundation Inc. (BPFI).
In a ceremony in Pasay City on Wednesday, PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar and BFPI chairperson Ambassador Benedicto Y. Yujuico, who is also the president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), signed a memorandum of agreement to push the program.
The MOA standardizes and institutionalizes the application and processing of the educational assistance for eligible beneficiaries. Applications will be received and evaluated by the PNP before submitting them to the BFPI.
As an initiative of the PCCI and private sector in partnership with PNP to honor the “modern day heroes,” the BFPI is created to provide educational and other forms of assistance and benefits to the children or dependents of PNP personnel who died or become permanently incapacitated in performance of their duty.
During the ceremony, BFPI awarded educational assistance to over 20 beneficiaries for the first batch.
One of the beneficiaries, 6-year-old Alexander Gutierrez, an incoming Grade 1 student, expressed gratitude toward the foundation for granting him educational assistance.
"My family and I would like to thank the BFPI for my scholarship grant. I will do my best for my family. I want to be a doctor,” he said in a video message.
Yujuico said the foundation is looking forward to expanding its program.
“By granting educational assistance to the dependents of PNP personnel who died or were permanently incapacitated while fulfilling their mission as public servants, we hope to have fulfilled the dreams they had for their sons and daughters,” he said.
Eleazar thanked the BFPI and hoped that the program will continue to show the charity of the foundation and “the gallantry of our fallen heroes.” --KBK, GMA News
