The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency thanked their informants with monetary rewards during a ceremony on Monday.

Six informants each received amounts ranging from P200,000 to P700,000 under Operation Private Eye, PDEA’s rewarding scheme to encourage the participation of the citizens to provide information that helps anti-drug operations.

According to PDEA, the rewards system is governed by the Dangerous Drugs Board under Regulation No. 5 Series of 2003.

PDEA deputy director general for operation Gregorio R. Pimentel said that the participation of the informants was also due to their objection to the drug problem.

“I firmly believe that the information that you have shared with us is not only because of your need for monetary reward rather the exasperation from the lingering drug problem led you to be involved in government’s anti-illegal drug problem,” he said.

Also present during the event were PDEA director general Wilkins Villanueva and Surigao del Norte Representative Robert Ace Barbers. — BM, GMA News
