7-year-old girl dies due to jellyfish sting at Camarines Sur resort

A 7-year-old girl died while two others were injured after they came in contact with a box jellyfish at a beach resort in Del Gallego, Camarines Sur.

According to Peewee Bacuno’s report on Super Radyo dzBB,” the victims were swimming at the Munting Buhangin Beach Resort with their relatives on Monday afternoon.

The child was swimming on a shallow portion of the water when she began to scream after the jellyfish latched onto her leg and foot.

She fainted and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Her uncle and cousin were also injured after coming in contact with the jellyfish.

Police authorities in Del Gallego said the parents of the victim are abroad.

They questioned how the child was able to enter the resort amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Meanwhile, the resort owner said the jellyfish was able to get in the resort after the net they placed was destroyed.

The resort will be temporarily closed. —Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
