No decision yet on charge vs. people linked to vulgar word in module —DepEd exec
There is no resolution yet on the charge that was slapped against the people blamed for the vulgar word found on a self-learning module in Pampanga, a Department of Education (DepEd) official told a congressional hearing on Friday.
Due process will be observed in this incident, according to DepEd Region III director May Eclar, adding that a formal charge due to neglect of duty was filed against the people involved, which included a teacher.
“Nagkaroon nga po kami ng fact-finding investigation and then dahil sila mismo in-admit nila talaga na 'di nila napansin ‘yung word na ‘yun, ‘yung ating division quality team, nglabas na rin po tayo ng formal charge hindi lamang para sa teacher concerned, kasama po pati ‘yung kasamahan,” Eclar said.
(We had a fact-finding investigation and those involved admitted that they didn’t notice the malicious word. We already filed a formal charge against the teacher and others who were involved.)
“Ang status po ng teacher [ay] pumapasok pa rin po siya kasi wala pa naman pong desisyon doon sa charge na nilabas. Magkakaroon po tayo ng due process para doon sa kaso na ito ng teacher at ng kanyang mga kasamahan,” Eclar added.
(The teacher is still on duty because there’s no decision yet on the charge filed against her. We are observing due process here.)
The DepEd earlier said it has found more than 100 errors in their learning materials, including the use of a malicious word.
DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio has said the inclusion of the word “makak*ntot,” which means sexual intercourse in English, was unacceptable. The said word was included in defining the meaning of “aswang.”
San Antonio has said the module had been recalled in February. —KBK, GMA News
