Pope Francis names Pabillo as new Apostolic Vicar of Taytay
Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo has been designated as new bishop of Taytay in Palawan province, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said on Tuesday.
In a tweet, CBCP announced that Pope Francis appointed Pabillo into the new post this Tuesday at 12 noon (Philippine time: 6 p.m.).
"Pope Francis has appointed Most Rev. Broderick Pabillo, until now Auxiliary Bishop of Manila, as Apostolic Vicar of Taytay and the Rev. Fr. Noel Pedregosa, until now Diocesan Administrator of Malaybalay, as Bishop of Malaybalay. #cbcpnews," read the tweet.

Pabillo will be replacing Bishop Edgardo Juanich who left his post in Taytay in 2018 because of health conditions.
From February 2020 to June 2021, Pabillo served as the apostolic administrator of Manila Archdiocese.
Progressive groups consider Pabillo as an activist priest for speaking his mind on a various social issues such as human rights and extrajudicial killings.
In 2009, he joined farmers in a hunger strike to push for the extension of the law on agrarian reform. —Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
