Broad daylight killing caught on Manila CCTV
A victim was shot to death in broad daylight in Manila by a motorcycle-riding suspect, according to Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras.”
CCTV footage showed the shooter, with a backrider on his motorcycle, drive up and park at a corner in Barangay 667.
Both kept their helmets on as they waited for the victim.
A few minutes later, the victim walked up and tried to make a purchase at a water station.
The motorcyclist-suspect, who was wearing the uniform of a motorcycle ride-hailing app, walked up to the victim and shot him at the nape.
“Bigla na lang ho sumulpot ‘yung motor eh, siguro nagmamanman. Pero bago binaril ‘yung biktima, may kausap pa sa cellphone ‘yung isa,” Barangay Administrator Anthony Zabala said.
(They suddenly appeared, they could have been monitoring. Before the victim was shot, one of them was talking on the phone.)
“Ang sabi po sa amin ‘yan po ay matagal na board dito. Mga five months na hindi daw nakakabayad ng upa… ang hinihinala namin baka may atraso," he added.
(What they told us is that he has been boarding here for a time. He hasn’t been paying rent for five months… we suspect that there’s a grudge here.)
Meanwhile, Manila Police District PIO Police Captain Philip Ines said there was a possibility that the suspects were tipped off by an associate.
“Kasi nakita natin pagkalabas nung tao andyan na ‘yung dalawa. Unusual ‘yun na ikaw na ‘yung magmamaneho ikaw pa rin ‘yung magiging gunner… kalimitan kasi ‘yung backride ‘yung gumagawa niyan,” he said.
(We can see that once the victim left his home, the suspects were already there. It’s unusual to be a gunner and the driver… usually, the backrider is the one doing the shooting.)
Police discovered that the victim was from Jolo, Sulu with an address in Quiapo.
Meanwhile, motorcycle ride-hailing app Angkas said that the gunman may be wearing their uniform but this did not mean the shooter was one of their riders.
Despite this, Angkas said that they were willing to cooperate with the investigation.
“Sabihin natin tradecraft nila ‘yun para hindi sila ma-identify na meron talaga silang plano na gawin, diba? Bukas tayo sa lahat ng posibiliad,” Ines said.
(Let’s say that that’s their tradecraft so their motive won’t be discovered. We’re open to all possibilities.)
