Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday refused to talk about the possibility of running for the Senate in the 2022 polls amid supposed support from some groups.

Interviewed on ANC, Eleazar pointed out that talking about candidacy might give “color” to his efforts in the police organization, which he said he has been working on even before.

“Sa ngayon (right now), I don’t want to be distracted kasi nakukulayan (because it seems I have a different agenda),” he said.

He added that it is not appropriate to talk about the elections considering that he is still working as PNP chief.

According to him, he only wants to rest and be with his family after his work in the PNP.

Eleazar made the statement when asked if he is open to run for the Senate as some groups, including a church group, are supposedly rooting for him for a senatorial position.

Despite refusing to answer, Eleazar thanked those who would like him to run for senator.

“Basta ganito na lang, ang taas po ng expectations niyo sa PNP partikular sa akin so hayaan niyo pong magtrabaho ako. Huwag niyo nang kulayan,” he said.

(Let’s just put it this way, you have high expectations in PNP, particularly in me, so just let me do my job. Don’t put a different shade of meaning on my efforts)

Eleazar is set to retire in November. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
