No threat monitored so far for Duterte’s last SONA —PNP
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said no threat has been monitored yet for the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte on July 26.
In a statement, the PNP also assured the public that police personnel are on stand-by in case a threat emerges.
“The PNP has not monitored any threat to the SONA but PGen Eleazar assured that all personnel are ready to respond to any eventuality,” it said.
Around 15,000 police officers will be deployed to secure Duterte’s sixth and last SONA.
PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said the police organization is fully prepared for the event as the National Capital Region Police Office finalized its security preparations and deployment plans.
According to the PNP, the COVID-19 situation was among the considerations in the security measures.
“Nakalatag na ang mga security plan at nakaantabay na rin ang sufficient number ng ating kapulisan para sa deployment at iba pang contingency measures,” Eleazar said.
(The security plan and other contingency measures are already in place and a sufficient number of police personnel are on stand-by.)
The NCRPO said it will use body-worn cameras to monitor the movements of suspicious individuals who are maybe planning to disrupt the event.
Eleazar urged groups planning to hold mass protests to conduct their activities virtually or online in light of the threat of COVID-19. -MDM, GMA News
