Red Cross warns of fake COVID-19 test bookings, vows to take legal action
The Philippine Red Cross on Sunday warned the public against fake COVID-19 swab and saliva test bookings as it vowed to take legal action against those involved in fraudulent transactions.
In an advisory posted online, the Philippine Red Cross cautioned against the fake Facebook and GCash account of Secretary General Elizabeth Zavalla.
“The legal team of the PRC is currently investigating the incident of identity theft and will take legal action to the full extent of the law against these offenders who tainted the reputation of Ms. Zavalla and the entire PRC organization,” the statement read.
The PRC also urged the public to report any suspicious activities to its hotline and official website.
“As the premier humanitarian organization in the country, the Philippine Red Cross continues to be the active ally of the government; committed to providing life-saving services that protect the life and dignity especially of indigent Filipinos in vulnerable situations,” it said.
The PRC last month cautioned against easing protocols for individuals fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as it pushed for the continuous testing requirements to prevent the spread of the pandemic. — DVM, GMA News
