Over 365,000 doses of government-bought Pfizer vaccine arrive in Philippines

A total of 365,040 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have arrived in the Philippines.

According to the National Task Force Against COVID-19, a total of 313,560 vaccines doses landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 at around 8 p.m.

The NTF said the 51,480 of the 365,040 doses earlier arrived in Cebu past 6 p.m. Of the total count, 51,480 doses will be flown to Davao from NAIA on Thursday morning.

The vaccines, procured by the Philippine government, were welcomed by vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and United States Chargé d’Affaires John Law.

“‘Yung karamihan dito ‘yung bibigyan natin are those areas na hindi pa nabibigyan ng Pfizer. We are trying to roll out to them,” Galvez said in a press conference.

(Most of these will go to areas that have not yet received Pfizer. We are trying to roll out to them.)

“So that in the future, once Pfizer picks up their deliveries, they are well aware and they are already well trained on how to handle the sensitivities of Pfizer,” he added.

Galvez said the Philippines is expecting another five million doses of Pfizer to arrive in September.

According to the vaccine czar, around 43% of the population in the National Capital Region have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) while around 63% have received at least one dose.

“We are happy that despite the performance and the trust of the different LGUs is now divided between the amelioration distribution and the response on the ongoing scale, we are still happy that the figures are still there,” he said.

According to Luisito Santos’ report on “Super Radyo dzBB,” the vaccines will be brought to the Pharmaserv Express storage facility in Marikina City.

As of August 12, a total of 12,282,006 Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Philippines has logged a total of 1,776,495 confirmed cases, of which 1,640,721 have recovered and 30,623 have died.—LDF, GMA News
