DepEd: 5.3M students enrolled for School Year 2021-2022 so far
Over 5 million students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 level have enrolled so far for School Year 2021-2022 as of Thursday, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
In a Facebook post, the DepEd said the number was recorded from both public and private schools.
“Umabot na sa kabuuang bilang na 5,356,643 ang mga nakapagpatalang mag-aaral na papasok sa Kindergarten hanggang Grade 12 sa mga pampubliko at pribadong paaralan sa buong bansa,” it said.
(The total number of enrolled students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in public and private school has reached 5,356,643 nationwide.)
The start of the school year is set on September 13.
Last school year, when the classes started on October 5, 2020, the total number of enrollees was recorded at 24.7 million.
It was only 89% of the total enrollment during the School Year 2019-2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic, the DepEd said.
According to the DepEd, the region with the most enrollees so far is Calabarzon with 710,526; followed by Central Luzon with 450,202; then by Western Visayas with 436,301.
A total of 4,557,327 students have enrolled so far during the early registration.
At least 734,306 students have enrolled so far in public schools, while 63,102 in private schools.
Last school year, around 398,000 students from private schools transferred to public schools amid the pandemic, according to the DepEd.
Meanwhile, 1,908 students have enrolled so far in state universities and colleges (SUCs) as well as in local universities and colleges (LUCs). —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
