Employees who contracted COVID-19 at work to get P10,000 —ECC

The Employees' Compensation Commission (ECC) on Wednesday said workers who contracted COVID-19 under job-related circumstances may receive at least P10,000.

Interviewed on Unang Balita, ECC senior information officer Alvin Garcia said the assistance is separate from the benefits from the Social Security System and Government Service Insurance System.

“They can receive cash assistance benefit. Sa ngayon, fixed siya na [For now, it is fixed at] P10,000 for sickness claim, P15,000 for death claim,” he said.

He added that those who had COVID-19 last year can still avail of the cash aid.

However, employees who are in a work-from-home arrangement since the implementation of community quarantines are not covered by the ECC’s cash assistance, Garcia said.

Garcia said medical experts are now studying the coverage for work-from-home employees who had COVID-19.

The requirements for the P10,000 cash assistance are the following:

  • accomplished forms downloadable from the websites of ECC, SSS, GSIS
  • certificate of employment indicating the last date the employee reported  to work before infection.
  • swab test result
  • medical certificate or quarantine clearance
  • two valid IDs

In April, the ECC approved the inclusion of COVID-19 among its list of occupational and work-related compensable diseases. —KBK, GMA News
