The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday started its review of the local source code in Eleksyon 2022 to help ensure transparency during the national and local polls.

In his keynote speech, Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo, chairman of 2022 national and local elections steering committee, said the review would enhance public acceptance and public confidence in the automated elections.

He added that the review would help identify critical or major issues that would affect the outcome of elections.

"We intend for this review process to be as transparent and participatory as possible," Casquejo said.

"We intend to preserve the integrity of our automated systems in the same manner that we aim to ensure that the upcoming automated elections run as smoothly as possible," he added.

The poll body's review process includes the evaluation of the election management system, vote-counting machines, and consolidated canvassing system, among others.
